South Central LAMP, a community-based nonprofit organization originally founded in 1993, serves the needs of children and families in the South Central area of Los Angeles .

Two positions for early childhood education teachers are currently available.

 

Lead Teacher – Early Childhood Education

 

The lead teacher guides classroom activities and instruction for children ages 0-3 participating in South Central LAMP’s Early Childhood Education Program.  The lead teacher is responsible for guiding a team of teachers to provide a safe, educationally stimulating and nurturing learning environment for the children.

 

REPORTS TO:               Early Childhood Education Director

Status:                         Part-time       

 

SUMMARY OF MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES FOR TEACHER:

 

  1. Responsible for the supervision, health and safety of all children in the toddler and infant classroom; lead teacher will be a key player in our efforts to obtain licensing.
  2. Ensures a safe, warm, welcoming, friendly and nurturing environment for children and parents both within the classroom and throughout the center.
  3. Coordinates weekly lesson plans in collaboration with the teaching team.
  4. Promotes and builds positive, respectful relationships with parents and staff.
  5. Oversees all PCILA/PACT activities, preparing lessons in collaboration with the teaching team.
  6. Leads PCILA/PACT, in conjunction with team, observing and guiding parents to participate in literacy building activities with children.
  7. Participates as a member of the Reading Is Fundamental Committee, taking part in regular planning meetings, selecting books for children and coordinating literacy events.
  8. Develops workshops for parents when necessary, including Reading is Fundamental and others, in collaboration with other team members
  9. Ensures routine observations of the developmental milestones of children are made and recorded;  Guides teachers on best practices for observations.
  10. Receives training on developmental evaluations, including DRDP-R, MacArthur Bates, PALS, PPVT, as needed.
  11. Administers the various assessments at South Central LAMP and oversees the thorough completion of all evaluations for children at the pre and post level, including but not limited to the following evaluations:  DRDP-R, MacArthur Bates, PALS, PPVT, or required equivalent tools.  Ensures they are completed in a timely manner and in line with required/recommended dates.
  12. Checks all evaluations for accuracy and guides teachers on completion of evaluations; collaborates with the data clerk and program director to ensure all data is collected in an accurate and timely manner.
  13. Plans and implements parent and teacher conferences, as needed/recommended throughout the program year.    
  14. Leads activities designed to help children in the development of essential skills and helps foster positive self-esteem of children in the program.
  15. Creates and maintains an attractive, safe and functional physical environment to enhance and promote learning.
  16. Maintains confidentiality and adheres to ethical conduct as outlined in the NAEYC Code of Ethics.
  17. Refers children at risk to the appropriate staff and participates in meetings if necessary.
  18. Collaborates with program director to develop and implement a Kindergarten transition plan.
  19. Implements the creative curriculum and supplements with additional resources as needed to enhance the curriculum’s focus on school readiness skills.
  20. Actively seeks assistance and resources to support children with special needs.
  21. Promotes diversity and tolerance in the classroom.

22.  Responsible for the serving and tracking of meals served to the children.

23.  Responsible for maintaining proper hygiene of the children, equipment and spaces.

24.  Coordinates all classroom cleaning responsibilities. 

  1. Collaborates in preparation and planning of South Central LAMP special events.
  2. Assists the directors in annual evaluation of classroom staff.
  3. Participates in and conducts general staff development, professional development, training and regular staff meetings as required.
  4. Mentors new teaching staff.
  5. Communicates vital information concerning health and safety of children, including     

      suspected neglect, abuse, serious medical conditions / illness to the immediate        

      supervisor.

  1. Is flexible and performs additional duties as needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education and/or experience:

  • High School Diploma; BA highly desirable
  • Maturity, self-motivation, experience with children 0-3 years old
  • Minimum 24 Child Development/ECE Units plus 16 general education units and 2+ years experience
  • Child development knowledge and experience a must
  • Commitment to children and families
  • At least 1 year experience with 0-3 age group

Early Childhood Education Consultant

                       

Status:   Full-time                   

 

Supervisor:    Program Director

 

Position Summary:   

South Central LAMP seeks a dynamic, self-motivated Early Childhood Education Consultant who can oversee LAMP’s licensing efforts in the Infant and Toddler programs by February 2011. In addition to leading the licensing effort, the ECE Consultant is expected to have expertise in the public sources of funding for preschool programs, such as Head Start, Early Head Start, State of California Title V , LAUP and others.  The ECE Consultant will help us identify and prepare for the sources that best fit our program and target population, and can thereby provide ongoing support for the program. The ideal candidate will be bilingual (Spanish) and possess strong leadership, facilitation, and team building skills. This position can develop into the full time Early Childhood Education Director.

 

Pay dependent on experience

 

Responsibilities and duties:

 

1.      Oversees the licensing of the Early Childhood Education Infant and Toddler Program.

2.      Review State licensing guidelines with representative from Department of Community Care Licensing.

3.      Conduct needs assessment of existing infant and toddler program in respect to licensing requirements.

4.      Begin application process and create plan for complying with all application requirements.

5.      Develop a financial plan as it relates to the impact of licensing expansion.

6.      Develop a “punch list” of improvements to the physical plant and administrative files necessary for licensing.

7.      Begin preparation of a Plan of Operation for the infant and toddler program, which will contain the program methods; goals; admission policies, procedures, and agreement; the administrative and staffing plan; a sketch of the building; sample menus and transportation arrangements.

8.      Prepare and submit documents to Department of Community Care Licensing as required.

9.      Develop training materials for staff, including but not limited to, procedures for signing a child in/out of care, policies regarding illness, reportable incidents, required updates to documentation, and infant care food and personal services.

10.  Investigate potential sources of public funding, such as Early Head Start and Title V and develop materials necessary to meet funder requirements.

11.  Oversee facility improvements, purchase of materials, and improvements to administrative files.

12.  Complete Plan of Operation.

13.  Ensure all application documents are completed with necessary fees paid.

14.  Maintain well organized files and filing system, and prepare all notes and work product in a neat and professional manner. 

15.  Prepare and implement a Professional Development plan for all ECE/SAE staff as needed by licensing.

16.  Be flexible and perform other tasks as needed and as may be assigned by the Program Director, Operations Manager, or Executive Director.

Qualifications:

  • BA degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, education, human services or related field. Masters preferred.
  • Bilingual – Spanish
  • Experience supervising staff
  • Experience serving children with special needs desirable.
  • At least two years of experience working with infants, toddlers and preschool aged children in a licensed facility.
  • At least 40 ECE/Child Development units
  • Must meet California requirements for director.
  • Child development site supervisor or program director permit desirable

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

POSITION:  PROGRAM MANAGER

REPORTS TO:  DIRECTOR OF FAMILY SUPPORT AND COMMUNITY SERVICES

 

JOB SUMMARY:  Collaborate with Program Director in the implementation of program goals, supervision, training, completion of program reports and dissemination of program information.  Ensure coordination of activities including Early Childhood Education, Health, Mental Health/Special Needs, and Parent Support/Education.  Disseminate program information, network with other school readiness sites, develop coordinated and integrated referral system for parents to school readiness resources, expand and enhance resources at School Readiness Centers, and develop program statistic tracking system.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Responsible for coordination of operations

·         Disseminate program information and network with other Early Learning sites and Neighborhood Action Councils.

·         Develop and maintain relationships with funders, evaluators, and partner organizations

·         Provide support to program director

·         Implementation of program goals and objectives

·         Supervise and provide training to assigned personnel and ensure compliance with policies and procedures

·         Tracking progress of workshops, events, and evaluations to assure contract compliance

·         Supervise School Readiness staff and work closely with assigned personnel

·         Preparation of required monthly reports, communications and other documentation

·         Develop referral system and statistical tracking system

·         Co-Chair of School Readiness Conferences

·         Participate and attend agency and community functions

·         Maintain cooperation and participation with collaborating agencies and identify possible new partners

DUTIES: Under general supervision, develops and administers the instructional program and fiscal resources of the Children's Center.  Assumes formal administrative responsibility for the overall operation of the program; provides leadership in the day-to-day management of the child development program; conducts the business affairs; provides leadership in planning and directing the program workforce including the instructional support staff; performs as the educational leader; provides leadership in integrating the philosophy and goals of the child development program with the developmental needs of the children; provides for the health, safety and nutritional needs of the children as well as the social service needs of the family; maintains rapport with the children's parents; establishes and maintains open lines of communication with the campus and local community; assesses organizational performance; plans for short and long term programmatic and financial development; and ensures compliance with county, State, California State University Northridge, Federal, and  NAEYC health and safety standards.  Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS: Equivalent to a Master's degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education.  Equivalent to five years of full-time experience teaching young children in a group setting which includes one year of administrative experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities listed.  Valid State of California Children's Center Supervision permit.  Meets requirements of NAEYC for Program Administrator.  Meets State of California health standards for employment in a licensed Children's Center, including negative TB test.  THE SELECTED CANDIDATE MUST PASS A FINGERPRINT CLEARANCE.  Knowledge, Specialized Skills, and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of the theories and principles of teaching young children and of early childhood development; age-appropriate behavior and expectations; general knowledge of business and administrative principles and personnel management in an educational environment; State of California and Federal standards and regulations governing child care centers; and the trends and issues within the field of early childhood education.  Ability and specialized skills to: prepare and deliver written and oral presentations to various campus and community constituencies; maintain accurate fiscal accounting; gather data for reports and proposals; analyze financial and statistical data and draw sound conclusions; organize and lead staff to achieve objectives; communicate effectively with children, parents, teachers, campus administrators, students and members of the community-at-large; utilize problem-solving techniques; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; and operate standard office machines, computers, and software such as Microsoft Office Suite.

POSITION:  PRESCHOOL ON WHEELS FACILITATOR

REPORTS TO:  SCHOOL READINESS PROGRAM MANAGER

 

JOB SUMMARY:  Create and implement a curriculum that is age appropriate and integrates a comprehensive approach emphasizing the social, emotional and cognitive development to meet the needs of 4 year olds preparing to enter preschool/Kindergarten. Conduct one on ones with children and parents that focus on specific needs.  Work closely with Early Learning Consultant to ensure that all children’s needs are being met. Conduct culturally appropriate outreach to surrounding communities.  Develop relationships with community spaces, such as libraries, parks, etc to promote partnership and utilization by families.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

·        Share knowledge of surrounding communities’ resources with families

·        Develop culturally and linguistically appropriate outreach strategies

·        Link early childcare and education providers to neighborhood Healthy Start sites
